Champions League Highlights: Chelsea vs. Bayer Leverkusen

Drogba has still got it. Too bad Chelsea lost to Bayer Leverkusen. Its unfortunate that Chelsea had to lose to Ballack’s team; especially when he wore a funny-looking face mask I only saw worn in the NBA.

Another misfortune for Chelsea is that they are now tied for second place in Group E with Valencia at 8 points. There’s going to be a very exciting battle between Chelsea and Valencia when they meet each other on December 6. Chelsea are lucky they’re going to be playing at Stamford Bridge because they’re going to need that home field advantage they didn’t have against Valencia in their previous match-up.

The Blues need to win to make it to the knock-out phase and to save themselves the embarrassment of being eliminated in the group stage. Drogba’s contract is expiring at the end of the season and I’m sure he’s going to lay a smack-down in what could be his last Champions League game in the Chelsea Uniform.

Champions League Highlights: Barcelona vs. AC Milan

Champions League Highlights: Barcelona vs. AC Milan

There wasn’t much at stake for Barcelona or AC Milan in this match-up. Both teams had already guaranteed their spots in the knockout phase after their previous game days. Barcelona was fighting to stay top of the group and managed to do just that.

There was not that much intensity in the game but it definitely produced a lot of goals from both sides. Messi was able to net a penalty shot which kept him in 2nd place for most goals in the Champions League. There were 5 goals in the match with the best one coming from Kevin Prince Boateng; an example of sheer brilliance.

Champions League Highlights: Arsenal vs. Borussia Dortmund

Champions League Highlights: Arsenal vs. Borussia Dortmund

Arsenal are doing a lot better in the Champions League than in their domestic league. They’re 7th in the EPL but have already managed to qualify for the knockout phase of the Champions League. Arsenal’s captain Van Persie is doing well in both competitions. He is the reason Arsenal are surviving both in the EPL and in the Champions League.

Its obvious that Van Persie is not getting the credit he deserves. He is the top goal scorer in the EPL and is definately amongst the best in Euroupe. He is in his last year of his contract and is pushing himself to the limit. It’s going to take a lot of work for Arsenal to keep him because he is attracting attention from a lot of clubs with his flawless performances this season. Is he turning it up this year because he wants a fatter paycheck?

Not necessarily, its a theory that could be applied to many different professional athletes but Van Persie could be playing so well because he has fully recovered from his injuries. Its great for Arsenal that he’s recovered because without him they would not be performing at the level they are now.
