Ron Wilson was fired by Toronto Maple Leafs GM, Brian Burke, on March 3 and was replaced by former Stanley Cup winner, Randy Carlyle. . The Maple Leafs were in the first position of the Eastern Conference at the beginning of the season, and are now struggling to make it to the play-offs, at 12th position in the Eastern Conference, trailing 5 points behind 8th seed Winnipeg Jets.
Ron Wilson getting fired by the Maple Leafs at this stage of the season was unnecessary. He may have deserved to be relieved of his duties as head coach, but Brian Burke should have waited to the end of the season to pull the plug. Ron Wilson is just another individual added to the long list of coaches that were fired by the Maple Leafs over the past decade. His replacement, Randy Carlyle is a former defenceman for the Maple Leafs and has a winning history with Brian Burke, but only time will tell if he’s a perfect fit for the team.
